About Me

Hello, I was born in Ahmedabad, India, and I have spent the last decade of my life living across the globe from Boston to London and now Bengaluru, in pursuit of stories.

I am a journalist (and a lapsed economist) with over six years of experience in political and business reporting covering a broad range from breaking news scoops and features with top policymakers to long-form investigative stories and data-intensive explainers.

Prior to undertaking freelancing earlier this year, I was the Europe, Middle East and Africa Editor for the Reuters Global Markets Forum, where I interviewed politicians, economists, and market bigwigs across EMEA. At Reuters, I covered everything from forex and commodities to geopolitics and reported on big economic events like sovereign debt crises in emerging markets, how central banks globally tackled skyrocketing inflation post the pandemic, crypto craze, and all those “unprecedented” shifts globally over the last four years.

Basically, my job has been to follow the money.

I hold two masters degrees: one in Applied Economics from the University of Massachusetts and another in International Relations & Journalism from Boston University. My research on communities of color in Massachusetts was published in MassBenchmarks Journal, a publication from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and UMass. I’ve also helped teach a seminar on environmental economics and was honored with the Arthur MacEwan Award for Excellence in Political Economy.

Before this, I was a guest columnist for The Diplomat, writing about India and South Asia’s political landscape. I’ve also contributed to a ton of publications as a freelance reporter, including The Boston Globe, Huffington Post, AP News, CNN, to name just a few, covering various beats from taxation, immigration to the Rohingya refugee crisis and Sino-India relations.

Additionally, I started Newspaperwali, a newsletter focused on gender issues in South Asia, and worked in communications roles at Harvard University and PBS.

An aspiring polyglot, I’m fluent in English, Hindi, and Gujarati, can hold a decent conversation in Spanish, still learning the script for Urdu – and I’m totally winning at my Turkish Duolingo lessons (one year streak at the time of writing!).
